Malta Airport Transfers - Vising Malta? The Best Way to Get From the Airport to the Hotel

Are you coming to Malta this year? Malta is the largest and most populated island in the group which forms the extraordinarily beautiful Maltese archipelago. It is a popular European holiday destination, set in the calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea off the southern coast of Italy, and comprises of the island Malta itself, its neighbour Gozo, the smaller Comino and some other tiny, uninhabited islets.

From the Megalith Temples (Europe's oldest free standing structures) the capital city Valletta (a World Heritage site) and the Knights of St John to the wonderful beaches and crystal blue seas, there is much to see and do in Malta. Malta has been described as an open air museum as all around the island you will find historical sights and buildings. On the other hand, For the young at heart Paceville near to St Julians has been described as the nightlife mecca of Europe where you can party all night long and to the early hours of the morning. So if you would like to stay at the hotel, tour the island to see historical places or party all night long Malta will satisfy your needs!

You will be arriving at the only International Airport on Malta situated in Hal'Safi. Although a small airport, you will find that it is a very good one, in fact, in 2010 it won the Best Airport award in the 1 to 5 million passenger category. Once you arrive in Malta you will need to get to your hotel, and the best way to do this is to hire a private or shared transfer service, unless you will be renting a car or someone will be picking you up. You can instead get a taxi from the airport or catch a bus, however taxis turn out to be more expensive and buses are not so efficient and you wont find any buses if your flight is a late night one/early morning one. Hence, we recommend booking a shared transfer if you are after a good value and, most importantly, a reliable service. It is better to book the transfer in advance rather than standing in the queue for the airport taxi pick up.

When booking an airport transfer look for safety, reliable and competitively priced services. Choose a company that is licensed, insured, and registered to ensure safety of the passengers; security. A good transport service will monitor the flight of the customer to know whether it is early or late and the transportation will be available there to receive you on time.

What Is Travel Insurance?

Should travel insurance play a role in your planning for this year's vacation? Ideally. You need to look carefully at just how much protection travel insurance can actually provide you while you are away on vacation. In addition, you need to give it some thought to what kind of insurance you should buy and what kind you can safely ignore. Trip cancellation coverage, accident and sickness coverage, baggage insurance and, life insurance are some of the many kinds of insurance people have to consider.

Trip cancellation coverage, probably the most important element for most travelers, will reimburse you for money lost if you've paid for a trip and then must cancel it because of a death in the family or an accident or illness involving you, a traveling companion or a family member. If you get sick before you are scheduled to leave you will get most or all of your money back. You will also be entitled to reimbursement if you get sick on your travel since you have to spend extra for going back home.

Having the Traveler's life insurance will grant person coverage when death happens as they are on a trip. Prior to buying travel insurance be sure to ask question concerning who will be covered and the like. The trip cancellations policies will also take into account your family and traveling companions. Coverage of illness or injury will even extend to business partners.

What are the countries the honor this coverage? Some policies exclude some specific countries. When will the coverage take effect? Most likely the start is when you take it out and ends when you come home.

In case someone gets sick or meets an accident will you have to pay first or will the coverage take care of it for you? Do you already have coverage that duplicates some of all of the coverage under a travel policy?

It pays to check if your health insurance already has you covered for medical expenses. Getting life insurance is also good for addition protection even until death. Dying at home now, will cost more then dying while traveling.

Some card companies provide you with insurance already like extra life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance granted you charge your tickets to their country. Is travel insurance really necessary? The Trip cancellation coverage will be the one thing you want to get if you have the life and health and homeowner's insurance already.

Be sure to consult people regarding this. Is there a possibility of getting a full refund? How much will tour companies give you back? In case problems arise, say with your charter flight or a non refundable tour then you will still be covered with the trip cancellation insurance.

Birmingham, Industrial Jewel of Britain

To people living outside the United Kingdom, London is probably the most famous city and it is to the capital that most people will automatically think. Some people may remember Liverpool with its famous musical connections to bands such as the Beetles, however the people found casting their minds to Birmingham may be more interested in industry than history or popular culture.

Despite being the UK's second highest populated city and containing around a third more people than Glasgow or double that of Liverpool, Birmingham is not always the first place people plan to visit on a trip to England. This is most likely because Birmingham has historically been respected as an industrial area. It was the eighteenth century that saw the areas international prestige grow, and the years that followed saw the area continue to flourish for its industrial and scientific achievements. This article looks at how industry in Birmingham has developed over the years.

Whilst London has retained fame for its eventful past and historical architecture, Birmingham's history has been connected with industrialisation, with manufacturing and industry being some of the most prominent success the city has seen. This is not a new thing, and as far back as 1791, Birmingham was being called "the first manufacturing town in the world." It was during the eighteenth century and the industrial revolution that the area really developed and become known internationally for innovation; the market town of the middle ages grew and was to become highly significant in global developments in science and technology.

Birmingham dates back at least as far as the seventh century when a small Anglo-Saxon farm sat by the River Rea. 1166 saw the introduction of a market which helped transform the village into a town, however the industrial and manufacturing connections really began in the 16th century when supplies of iron ore and coal led to the development of metalworking industries. In the 17th century this led to the production of small arms, and the 18th century saw Birmingham become home to the Lunar Society. This was where local thinkers and industrialists would gather, and preceded Birmingham's 19th century political prominence when a campaign for political reform saved the country from civil war, with union meetings becoming the largest political assemblies the country had ever seen.

The industrial boom that helped Birmingham grow also saw the city became famous for the manufacture of jewellery, to such an extent that part of the city became known as "Jewellery Quarter". In 1553 it is thought the first of Birmingham's goldsmiths lived in the city; by 1780 this had grown to 26. By the 19th century 400 people were employed by jewellery manufacturing companies. This type of trade peaked in 1914 with over 20,000 people with employed.

The end of World War I saw less demand for military buttons, badges and medals. This, and a general change in fashion caused there to be less demand for products of this nature. Despite many innovations and attempts to continue sales such as the production of unique silver jewellery, sales continued to drop and most businesses were forced to diversify. 1965 saw 8000 people employed by 900 jewellery firms; by 1985 this dropped to 4000 people. The area is now part of the ongoing city regeneration.

Birmingham had withstood the test of time and marked its place in history as a centre of science, industry and political power, however the city suffered severe damage during the air raids of World War II. With so much weight and history behind it, the city was able to develop and regenerate.

As the modern world changed, so too did Birmingham. Immigration to this area resulted in a sharp change in ethic makeup. The population peaked in 1951 with 1,113,000 residents and the 1970's saw an average income greater even than that of London or the southeast. During the next decade, the government attempt to spread power more equally throughout Wales, Scotland and England. This caused Birmingham to become less able to regenerate and more reliant on existing industry such as vehicle manufacture.

Birmingham and the UK motor industry have been associated for a great many years. The area known as Longbridge was dominated by car manufacture and housed many famous UK brands from Austin to Morris, British Leyland and MG Rover.

With falling sales, MG Rover were forced to cease trading in 2005 despite being purchased by BMW at one stage, and later being sold to the Phoenix Consortium in 2000. The Rover brand name was eventually purchased by Ford (who had already bought the Land Rover range from BMW) and then sold on to Tata who took over the Jaguar and Land Rover ranges. Large areas of Longbridge were demolished and things looked bleak.

Although the Rover brand is no more and looks unlikely to return, MG-Rover's former partners, the Nanjing Automobile group, purchased the assets for the MG side of the business and restarted production of MG's famous sports cars in 2007. MG production was resumed at Longbridge and a number of Rovers original plans and ideas have been extensively developed and reworked using the original people. The production of new MG saloon cars is thought to resume this year, just six years after MG appeared to have been lost forever.

Birmingham's future looks assured; not only has the UK motoring industry returned to its spiritual home but the city has been transformed. Known as the Big City Plan, classic features such as canals and buildings have been restored, and new areas developed from scratch. Birmingham has overcome every challenge history has given, coping with major devastation caused by the War, recessions and the closure of Britain's best known car manufacturer.

Along with this latest regeneration, new areas of Birmingham property have been developed including major stretches of new housing. Historically, Birmingham has always had major industrial and transport links making this city the perfect place to work and live. Ranked as a gamma world city, Birmingham goes from strength to strength and plays host to internationally respected cultural institutions. Despite all of setbacks the city could have faced, it seems that nothing can prevent the areas continued success.

Denia - The Grand Opera

In one of his poems, Tono Fornés states that the insolent sunset in Denia invites us to clap like as we would between two movements of grand opera. To do so you must first find the appropriate location, of course. This location, without a doubt, is the coastline that from the port of Denia designs the beach of La Marianeta Casiana and a little beyond the rocky beaches of Les Rotes. From here any place is a good spot to watch the show, but I highly recommend one by the sea. An ample gravel road parallel to the beach leads to Helios Bar, an establishment with a splendid terrace overlooking the sea. There, accompanied by a few beers, in summer between 8:00 and 9:00 pm I have experience the sunset many times. The light that follows as well as the calm sea has invited me, following the directions of the poet, to shout Bravo! Bravo! But I have been demure and opted to remain silent and ask for another beer.

Out of the many destinations to choose from in the Costa Blanca, Denia is definitely one of the most desirable. Located where the Province of Valencia ends and Alicante begins, an area badly beaten by commercial tourism. Denia has a few things that make this town special unlike other destinations such as Benidorm, Gandia and Cullera. For starters, Denia is a charming town, with its own rhythm, it has a history and retains a quaint old quarter with winding streets wonderful to walk through and discover. Its humble neighborhoods, next to the castle or by the sea are full of color, with houses painted blue or peach. The more affluent areas include palaces and houses of a certain stature particularly around Loreto Street close to the church square. All in a typical Mediterranean atmosphere with people chatting on the streets or sitting in terraces surrounded by palm trees. Denia has a splendid climate, a little hot in the summer but very mild the rest of the year which makes it a preferred destination for thousands of Germans and Dutch ex pats.

Denia has a large fishing port that supplies many of its restaurants. Widely known as the gastronomic capital of the Costa Blanca, it is a great place to savor picaetes (tapas) like sepia (squid), calamari and cuttlefish; suquet de rape (stewed monk fish). The traditional dish of Denia is arrós a banda a succulent rice dish made with local fish stock. Around the area of Rotes there are several restaurants where to taste this dish such as el bar de Helios, very good, and other restaurants a little further along the coast line: The Farallo (Fenix, 10), Sendra (Pda. Les Rotes, 137) or Mena (Final de la Rotas s/n). All of them serve tasty culinary delights such as dried octopus and the famous gambas rojas, a special breed of shrimp found in the waters around Denia, served simply boiled or grilled and nearly as coveted as truffles. The abundance of excellent raw materials and a tradition for good food has resulted in a culture of good cuisine and innovation, given birth to one of the best restaurants of the Mediterranean coast, El Poblet, located on the road to Las Marinas (Ctra, La Marinas Km. 3). Its food has been making headlines for decades. Choose among the cotemporary rustic rooms with views of the kitchen, alfresco dining on the terrace or the glassed pavilion.

Denia has also one of the liveliest and most colorful markets of the Valencian coast. The stalls of fruits and vegetables are great, well stocked with locally grown produce. In the butcheries you can find excellent sausages (red, white or black) of the area ideal for preparing tasty bocadillos and in the fisheries you can find the fish and shellfish just unloaded from local boats. If your plan is to make delicious paella this is the place to go to find the best and freshest produce. It is curious to observe the proliferation of stalls (butchers, bakers, etc.) opened by Germans that supply the large colony of expats that live there. I advise you to visit the market first thing in the morning as it gets very crowded as the day progresses.

So far I have written about walks, food and spectacular sunsets but when in Denia you must dive into its warm and clear sea. The area of les Rotes is wonderful for scuba diving or just snorkeling with a simple mask and fins. There is plenty of sea life to be enjoyed among the rocks. If on the other hand you are craving white sandy beaches were to sulk in the sun and take long relaxing walks the best thing is travel a few miles north to Oliva. Close to the Oliva Nova Hotel, a resort for golf aficionados, you will find the best preserved sand dune beaches of the Mediterranean coast. There you can enjoy miles of unspoiled beaches among very few people, when I am in Denia I swim here daily.

Close to Denia is the natural park of Montgó worth visiting to take a leisurely stroll or to admire the stunning views. You can also enjoy superb views from the Palau del Governador (Governor's palace), a Moorish era castle perched high on a hill in the center of town. The castle is worth a visit though I must warn you that in the heat of summer the ascent on foot is a little daunting, but on the descent you will find your reward at Verdú, Avenida de Marques de Campo, where they serve delicious homemade ice cream and meringue. On second thought, I am not sure what is more rewarding whether having an ice cream or meringue at Verdú or walking down to Loreto Street for an ice cold beer and tapas. Okay, let´s have the beer and tapas and then the ice cream. Letting time go by until you can head out to Helios bar and watch the sunset.

It is really a very special opera, what with the sound of seagulls in the background, joggers running placidly by, and a warm sea breeze to relieve the heat. Ah, and an ice cold beer on the table. Yes, you will become a great Opera fan!

West Somerset Railway - A Preserved Railway in South West England

With a length of 20 miles, the West Somerset Railway is the longest standard gauge heritage railway in Great Britain. The line runs from Bishops Lydeard, 5 miles north-west of Taunton, to Minehead on the Bristol Channel coast. The line has a connection to the national rail network at Norton Fitzwarren, 2 miles west of Taunton.

Brief History

The original line from Taunton to Minehead was built to the Great Western Railway's broad gauge of 7' 0¼" (2,140mm), the Bristol and Exeter Railway operated the line from the outset.

* 1862 - West Somerset Railway opened from Norton Fitzwarren to Watchet.
* 1874 - Minehead Railway from Watchet to Minehead opened.
* 1897 - The Great Western Railway absorbed the Minehead branch.
* 1923 - Nationalisation - The Minehead Branch became part of British Railways Western Region.
* 1971 - Minehead Branch closed by British Railways
* 1976 - The current West Somerset Railway re-opened to passengers between Minehead and Blue Anchor. Later the same year the line opened to Williton.
* 1979 Opened to the current southern terminus at Bishops Lydeard.

Trains

When the West Somerset Railway opened in 1976, traction was provided by just two Bagnall 0-6-0T industrial saddle tank steam locomotives. The railway now operates a variety of larger steam and diesel locomotives suited for the longer trains needed to cater for the current passenger numbers. The railway's steam locomotive list includes:

* S&DJR class 7F 2-8-0 No. 88 (built 1925).
* SR West Country class 4-6-2 No. 34046 Braunton (built 1946).
* 3 GWR Manor class 4-6-0s (built 1950)
* Main line diesel locomotives available to the line include:
* BR class 47 Co-Co No. D1661 North Star (built 1965).
* BR class 52 C-C No. D1010 Western Campaigner (built 1962).

In addition there are about eight shunters and industrial locomotives. Train consist of mostly British Railways Mk1 stock painted in GWR chocolate and cream livery with West Somerset Railway crests but there is also an increasing number of restored older carriages. BR class 115 and 117 diesel multiple units work some trains.

The West Somerset Railway Association operates a dining train called the Quantock Belle which is easily identified by it's BR maroon livery.

Visiting

I have travelled on the line more times than any other heritage railway as it is my nearest steam railway. The journey over the full length of the railway takes about 1¼ hours. That gives plenty of time to relax and partake of refreshments from the buffet car including local beer and cider, whilst enjoying the picturesque Somerset countryside.

To really appreciate the West Somerset Railway stopping off at the beautifully restored intermediate stations and visit the other places of interest nearby. There's pretty much something for everyone, from the various locomotive preservation groups along the line to the delightful historic harbour town of Watchet.

No holiday in south-west England would be complete without a visit to what is in my opinion, one of the best standard gauge preserved railways in Britain and most certainly the premier heritage line in the South West. If you are visiting Somerset or the surrounding area, don't miss it!

Fancy vacationing to Cyprus in style? Well there are many great places to stay on the beautiful island, but there are only a few real luxury resorts and holiday apartments in Cyprus.

1. What star rating has the resort been awarded?

The first thing to establish when choosing a luxury apartment in Cyprus is to find out what star rating has the resort been given. Holiday resorts usually range from 1 star all the way up to 5 stars. 5 stars being the best. Although some resorts might not even have a star rating, indicating that the facilities will usually be very basic. So if you are looking for real luxury, it would be best to look for apartments that have been awarded a 5 star rating.

Welcome to the North

If you need proof the north-south divide no longer exists head to Newcastle. This city was once the centre of northern depression after the coal industry, once the region's driving force, collapsed. But fast forward to 2011 and the city is thriving. So much so it's now stealing visitors from London, Brighton and Bath and even appeals to overseas travellers who now feel the drive up the M1 is worth it.

You won't be able to get bored in this northern gem. There is plenty to do, but the biggest draws are the city's sense of style evident in its fashions and architecture; its addictive nightlife that is now attracting more than just the stag and hen crowd and its sport scene: Newcastle United and Sunderland FC compete for your favour. The locals are another good reason to spend time in Newcastle.

Get to grips with the city and its innate sense of style with a walk along the banks of the River Tyne. It was this very river that help Newcastle develop as such as major trading city and why it was a favoured location of the Romans.

Both modern and old are evidenced along the riverside. However, modernity is best seen in the bridges from the Tyne bridge, the compression arch suspended bridge, famous around the globe and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge that periodically tilts letting ships pass beneath it.

Newcastle is a trendsetter and its art and fashion scene is thriving. It also likes to support homegrown talent, proof of which can be found at the Biscuit Factory. This is more of a shop than a gallery, but local artists also display their works here; it's also just a cool and trendy space to hang out in. It is a unique space, only comparable to a few locations in London.

Two theatres stand out in Newcastle. The first is Theatre Royal, which puts on in excess of 380 performances a year. What's more as it is the third home of the Royal Shakespeare company after London and Stratford, several of the great master's plays are also featured here throughout the autumn.

Option number two is the People's Theatre. It is the North of England's leading amateur theatre company and one of the largest and oldest in the country. It focuses on producing works from local producers, directors and actors.

Newcastle is not what it once was; it enjoying a renaissance that is attracting people from all over the world. Make use of the bank holidays and spend some time in this friendly, stylish city.

How To Choose A Luxury Travel Destination

Luxury travel is the ideal way to combine exploring the beauties of nature while staying in modern, comfortable accommodation. Whether you choose a villa, resort, or a ship, you can indulge all your senses on a trip of this kind.

Honeymooners, families, and friends will surely enjoy travelling in luxury. To make sure you get value for your money, plan your vacation using these tips-

1. Do you have a destination in mind? If there's some place you have always wanted to visit, travelling in luxury to do so will give you some pleasurable moments. A Caribbean island resort or a cruise to Europe could be an ideal choice for you.

2. If money's no object, you could choose a villa with a complimentary butler, chef, and personal maids. If you want to travel on sea, you could go for a cabin with a verandah for a breathtaking view.

3. Depending on the number of days you have for your holiday, you could choose a cruise to Asia or Europe. Land destinations like resorts or villas may require you to stay for a minimum number of days, so be sure to check their policy in advance.

4. Your interests are valuable for choosing the holiday destination. If you are culturally inclined, a cruise to Europe with shore excursions to museums may fit the bill. If adventure sports are your passion, you could choose a resort near coral reefs where you can snorkel.

5. An ocean view can itself be relaxing, whether you rent a villa or a cabin. At sea, a cabin which is nearer to the centre of the ship can be a better bet if you are prone to seasickness.

6. Butler services are available on land and at sea. Villas may also have chefs of international stature, who can cook a meal according to your specifications.

7. Ensure you book in advance so that you get your desired villa or cruise cabin. Doing so may also make you eligible for complimentary upgrades.

8. Look at photographs of the resort or ship you are considering. Other aids can be awards received by the resort, or testimonials by previous passengers on the cruise.

A travel expert can guide you through the maze of available options for your luxury travel. Luxury Travel Team is the luxury division of Cruise.com, a respected player in the industry. Their team of experienced, knowledgeable professionals can assist you in choosing the right resort, villa, or ship according to your needs!

Steps In Planning Your Luxury Vacation

If you're planning to take a cruise for the first time, you may need help in planning your luxury vacation. Even before you seek assistance, you need to be clear on what you want on your holiday, so that your travel operator can guide you accordingly.

Here are some steps to take in planning your luxury vacation-

1. A cruise is a great idea for a family vacation however old your children may be. In case you are travelling with toddlers, the cruise line you select should have entertainment options specifically for them.

2. Depending on your budget, you may get a better value for money. You are likely to get good deals if you book more than nine months in advance. Alternatively, you could take a chance and book with less than two months to go. Discounts are available in that case as well.

3. Another decision you need to make is the length of time you want to be onboard. If you have less than a week, your choices will probably include the Bahamas, Mexico, and some parts of the Caribbean. A 'cruise to nowhere' is also an option. This will allow you to cruise for a long weekend from the port to the ocean and back.

4. The timing of the travel is also an important question you must ask yourself. Cruises are usually more affordable in the spring or fall. Families who want to take their children on a cruise prefer summer because school holidays are long then.

5. Some destinations have short cruising seasons. For instance, May to September is the time to travel to Alaska.

6. Choosing your destination depends on what you want to see. With three quarters of the world being water, it is possible to reach every continent by sea.

7. Book shore excursions according to your interests. European cruises are likely to feature more cultural opportunities than tropical destinations. Many options for entertainment are also available on board.

8. Determine the kind of cabin you want. If you book early, you may be able to upgrade your room. On most ships, a cabin which is closer to the middle of the ship or on a lower deck is more suitable in case you are prone to feeling seasick.

A professional travel consultant can assist you in planning your luxury vacation. Luxury Travel Team is Cruise.com's luxury division. Their knowledgeable and experienced staff can help you to find the right ship or hotel for your holiday.

How To Rent A Luxury Villa

Staying in a luxury villa can be a memorable experience. A family vacation to an exotic destination is more enjoyable if you stay in a comfortable property. A villa can also provide you privacy. If you find the prospect of renting a property like this attractive, you would do well to keep these points in mind when you are booking one-
1. First, choose your destination. If you are planning to book a property on a Caribbean island, research the quality and number of available luxury villas on islands you have shortlisted.
2. Regional flights and ferries can add large amounts to your vacation cost, so think about booking a villa at a destination which has a direct flight from the U.S. like Jamaica.
3. Choose a property which is affordable to rent and has the amenities you want. These could include a beachfront, golf, and availability of a butler.
4. Villa layout can be an important consideration for you, so alert your booking agent accordingly. Families with toddlers or older travelers may prefer single- level properties.
5. Affordable options may be available just before or after the peak season. Mid-December to mid-April is the high season for villas in the Caribbean, so you may halve your cost if you book before or after this period.
6. Book early in case you want a villa during holiday season. Some owners use their properties if they do not receive any bookings. Most luxury villas are booked by late summer.
7. Compare villa rent, meal, and alcohol costs with hotel and resort charges. Villas may be more affordable because you have a package deal for the entire property.
8. Look for a property which has staff with a cook and maid if you want to laze around on your holiday. The longer their tenure, the more satisfied they are likely to be with the property.
9. In case you don't need all the bedrooms in the villa, ask if you can only pay for the ones you plan to use. You can enjoy the benefits of renting a larger property at an affordable price in that case.
10. Check if you need to stay for a minimum number of days. Also confirm the items included in your package. Ask about the charges for additional options like spa services so that you can budget for them.
Hire a villa booking agent online. They can help you with flights, car travel, and finding chefs. Luxury Travel Team has an experienced team of travel consultants. They personally pay attention to helping you find luxury villas which are affordable options!

Steps For Renting Luxury Villas

Sometimes it feels like when you want to holiday, so does the rest of the world. Renting a villa can give you and your family much needed privacy on your vacation. Ocean views, being waited on hand and foot, lazing around on a beach, can all be part the experience.
Staying in a villa is also a great way to learn more about the local culture and customs. In case you're looking to rent one in the Caribbean, here are some steps you could follow-
1. If you're looking for seclusion, the Bahamas could be a better option than Jamaica. Untouched fine sands, luminescent waters, a history which includes pirates, can enhance your holiday experience.

The Kentucky Derby Experience

The 2011 Kentucky Derby will be held on May 6 and 7 at the world-famous Churchill Downs in Louisville. There is nothing like witnessing "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" live from the track, which is why attendance usually surpasses that of all other stakes races in the U.S. Anyone who has not purchased a Kentucky Derby ticket for this year can still do so in order to experience the action live.
Churchill Downs was incorporated in 1937 and the race has had a distance of 1.25 miles since 1896. All horses must be three years old to participate. The top five finishers receive a share of the purse and the fastest time run to-date was 1:59:40 by Secretariat in 1973. A record was set by Calvin Borel in 2010, when he became the first jockey to win three out of four consecutive times.
These facts are interesting, but there is more to the experience than the race itself. The rich and famous attend the race, which has become a fashion event. Eating is something to savor when attending one of the Levy Restaurants at Churchill Downs. Taste of Derby is a new related culinary event when participants sample cuisine from popular horse racing destinations located throughout the U.S., paired with the perfect wines.
Two of the long-standing traditions at the Derby are the mint julep beverage and burgoo, which is a thick stew made from pork, beef, vegetables, and chicken. Since 1896, Kentucky Derby winners have received a blanket made of 554 red roses. The blanket and a trophy are presented to winners by the governor of Kentucky.
Kentucky Derby Tickets 2011 cost $25 to $40 for general admission, which provides access to the infield, paddock areas, and all standing room only areas. Direct access to the racetrack is not included, nor is a program. Reserved seats can also be purchased for Sections 123, 124, and 125 Oaks and Derby, at a cost of $555 per package.
Of course, Kentucky Derby betting is what some attendees most anticipate. Future Wages allow fans to wager on possible competitors at odds often more attractive than those available on race day. Individuals can also rely on expert picks for the 2011 race if they will be attending the event. Whether enjoying the race trackside or from one of the luxurious Jockey Club Suites, attendees will have an excellent time.

Things To Do When Attending The Kentucky Derby

Those with their Kentucky Derby tickets in hand will be traveling to Louisville before May 7 to enjoy the two-minute race in person. Each year, approximately 155,000 people watch some of the best three-year old horses in the country compete to win the $1.425 million first place purse. The "Run for the Roses" takes approximately two minutes, leaving attendees with plenty of time for some fun away from the Churchill Downs racetrack.

The Kentucky Derby Festival runs for the two weeks that precede the race day. It is packed with events, including Thunder Over Louisville, which is the largest annual fireworks display held in North America. Visitors can also attend the Pegasus Parade, one of the largest U.S. parades. The Great Balloon Race, Great Steamboat Race, Derby Marathon, and the mini-Marathon are other events included in the festival.

Some people are not able to get into town to attend the concerts, culinary feasts, and athletic events that are part of the festival. There is plenty for them to do during the day of and those following the race. Whether they stay at hotels near the airport like the Country Inn and Suites, Ramada Limited and Suites, Residence Inn, or Hampton Inn, they will enjoy accommodations about two miles from the race track and close to everything else.

Downtown Louisville is nearby and features the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, Muhammad Ali Center, and Speed Art Museum. The Frazier International History Museum has interactive exhibits and permanent galleries for all ages, walking visitors through 1,000 years of history. For some hair-raising fun, visitors can ride the roller coasters at Six Flags Kentucky.

After the Kentucky Derby winners have been crowned, it is time for some good eats. Lilly's, 610 Magnolia, and Seviche are three of the top-rated restaurants in town. Anyone interested in doing some local traveling while dining might enjoy the My Old Kentucky Dinner Train. The 1940s dining cars take a two-hour excursion through the countryside of Kentucky.

There is no shortage of bars in Louisville and after the Kentucky Derby, these are packed. L&N Wine Bar and Bistro, Maker's Mark Bourbon House and Lounge, and The Back Door are three of the most popular bars. Hoops Grill and Sports Bar is the spot for those who have not had their fill of sports. There, everyone will be discussing the Kentucky Derby winners and losers and already preparing for their trip in 2012.

Consider Renting A Luxury Villa On Your Next Vacation

Many people spend a great deal of time planning an annual vacation, investing a lot of thought and effort in choosing the right destination. Accommodations, however, are often part of a travel package, and in some areas can be crowded, noisy, and the opposite of relaxing. Next time consider a luxury villa, which is simply a private residence opened to rental by a limited number of vacationers.

Before discarding this idea as far too expensive, understand that while most of these come with a higher price, they also can comfortably house more people than a single hotel room. When divided among the total numbers in a party, the overall cost is often about the same as the same stay at a mid-range hotel. This type of rental can be ideal for family occasions where everyone is travelling together, such as an out-of-town wedding or similar celebration.

Even when prices turn out to be somewhat higher, luxury villa rental is simply worth the extra money. The often have multiple bedrooms, and comfortable living spaces such as dining and living rooms, in addition to fully equipped kitchens for entertaining. Often they have a staff which exists only to cater to your needs. Amenities abound, and there are no timeshare membership fees involved.

Rentals differ by region, but all have similar advantages. Because they are private homes, luxury vacation rentals are often kept in much better condition than comparably priced hotels. Even the most opulent hotels must constantly clean up simply to maintain an attractive and livable appearance. Many of these homes belong to people who have simply invested in high-end property, but do not actually live there full time, but have a staff to keep everything in pristine shape.

One of the biggest advantages is privacy. Being caught up in a crowd of vacationers at a popular site may be all right during the day. Coming home to noise and confusion is not, however, and your own private home rental will provide precious peace and quiet at the end of a hectic day. Many of them not only have full kitchen facilities, but also feature amenities like a washer and dryer.

Most rentals in warmer climates have private swimming pools. Sharing the pool with a crowd of noisy kids is the opposite of relaxation, and being able to lounge in privacy is worth the cost. This does not mean that children are not allowed, however. While there are some rentals that will not allow kids, many are child-friendly, and are totally suitable in terms of privacy and sleeping areas. Many times there are enough bedrooms for each child to have his or her own.

Some of these homes feature live-in managers, which can be very helpful not only in keeping things in tip-top condition, but also in making suggestions on the best places to visit and dine locally. These people are there to limit your vacation stress, and can even arrange tours or point out the best places to shop. Some high-end facilities have a full-time chef, which sounds expensive, but can actually save money when compared to eating in restaurants.

The perfect luxury villas may be waiting for you no matter which corner of the world you wish to see. From the theme-park mecca of Florida, to historic sites in Europe and spacious tropical retreats in Asia, consider renting a luxury villa. Many owners will are willing to negotiate a lower price, especially for longer stays. If a crowded hotel room is not your idea of vacation heaven, one of many Internet rental sites will be happy to provide more information helpful in planning your stay.

The ingredients of their success is unmatched within the industry, check out Villas Costa Rica for all of your get away dreams.
